Here you will find answers to frequently asked questions about our check-up offers and the process at InnerMed.
What is part of a health check-up at the GP from the age of 40?
The health check at the GP's includes an interview, a physical examination, measurement of blood pressure and pulse as well as laboratory values such as blood sugar and cholesterol. The aim is the early detection of common internal risks such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes mellitus and lipometabolic disorders.
The statutory health insurance check-up („Check-up 35“) is generally covered every three years from the age of 35. It includes defined basic examinations and a few selected laboratory services to assess key health risks.
If a more differentiated categorisation of organ functions, metabolism or individual risk factors is also required, extended diagnostics may be useful. Depending on the package, additional laboratory parameters and technical examinations are combined at the InnerMed Check-up Centre. The InnerMed basic check-up is designed as a structured supplement to the statutory health insurance check-up.
Short comparison: Health insurance check = basic benefits every 3 years InnerMed Check-up Centre = depending on the package, extended diagnostics in one appointment
What is done during a check-up at the GP?
A check-up at the GP usually includes a medical consultation on pre-existing conditions and risk factors, a physical examination, measurement of blood pressure and pulse as well as blood tests (e.g. blood sugar and cholesterol levels) and - depending on the individual situation - further examinations to assess common health risks.
As part of statutory preventive care, the focus is on basic services. These include defined laboratory values and the early detection of selected diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes or lipometabolic disorders.
However, many people associate a „complete check-up“ with a more comprehensive examination of the heart, blood vessels, organ functions or metabolism. Such extended examinations - such as ultrasound, ECG or additional laboratory analyses - are not part of the statutory check-up.
Depending on the package, the InnerMed Check-up Centre combines physical and technical examinations in order to differentiate between organ functions, vascular health and metabolism. The basic check-up serves as a structured supplement to statutory preventive care.
Short comparison: Statutory check = defined basic diagnostics Extended check-up = individually combined diagnostics depending on the issue at hand
How much does a complete health check cost?
The cost of a health check depends on the scope of the examinations. The statutory health check-up is a preventive service provided by the statutory health insurance scheme. More extensive check-ups with additional laboratory or technical examinations are usually billed as a self-payer service in accordance with the scale of fees for doctors (GOÄ).
The statutory check-up from the age of 35 is usually part of statutory health insurance every three years and includes defined basic services.
Extended health checks can include additional laboratory parameters, ultrasound examinations, pulmonary function tests, ECG or stress tests. The costs depend on the scope, time required and billing in accordance with GOÄ.
At the InnerMed Check-up Centre, prices currently range from €99 (basic check) to €799 (premium check), depending on the package. These are individual health services (IGeL) that are generally not covered by statutory health insurance.
Short comparison: Health insurance check = regular preventive service Extended check-up = IGeL according to GOÄ
How long does a health check at the GP take?
A statutory health check takes around 20 to 30 minutes in many GP surgeries. It is not uncommon for blood samples to be taken and laboratory results to be discussed in separate appointments. More extensive check-ups with additional diagnostics require correspondingly more time.
The statutory check-up programme focuses on basic examinations. Extended programmes combine additional technical examinations and more detailed medical consultations.
Depending on the package, an appointment at the InnerMed Check-up Centre takes around 45 to 60 minutes (basic, men's or power check) or around two hours (premium check). Thanks to the practice's own laboratory, results can be promptly categorised by a doctor and discussed at the same appointment.
Short comparison: Statutory health insurance check = legally defined basic preventive care InnerMed check-up centre = individually combined diagnostics as a self-payer service according to GOÄ

All check-up examinations at a glance
Below you will find an overview of the examinations that are used in our check-up programmes. We explain what the individual examinations do and what medical benefits they have.
The specific examinations carried out depend on the selected check-up package and the individual question. You can find the exact scope of the examination on the respective detailed pages of the check-up packages.
Laboratory and blood tests
Laboratory and blood tests are a central component of our check-ups and provide objective information about your state of health. The blood and urine analyses are carried out in our practice's own laboratory so that the results are available immediately and can be classified by a doctor at the same appointment
Depending on the check-up package and medical issue, different blood and laboratory values are determined. These include tests in the areas of blood count, blood lipids, sugar metabolism, organ functions, inflammation values, tumour markers, hormone status and supplementary urine tests. This creates a differentiated picture of central bodily functions - tailored to the respective package.
Your benefit - Comprehensive overview of key health areas such as metabolism, organ functions, cardiovascular system and hormonal regulation - Early detection of abnormalities and risks, even before complaints arise - Reliable basis for medical assessment, as laboratory values objectively supplement and categorise examination results
Which blood and laboratory values are determined in detail depends on the selected check-up package and the individual question. You can find the exact scope of the examination on the respective detailed pages.
Pulse, blood pressure and oxygen measurement
These basic examinations provide a quick overview of your cardiovascular condition. • Pulse and blood pressure show how the heart and blood vessels work under resting conditions. Abnormal values can indicate stress, exhaustion or circulatory disorders. - The Pulse oximetry measures the oxygen saturation in the blood. It shows how well your body is supplied with oxygen - an important factor when you feel tired or weak.
Your benefit Clear assessment of whether cardiovascular factors play a role in the reduced energy or resilience.
Resting ECG
The resting ECG measures the electrical activity of the heart in a relaxed state. It shows the heart rhythm, conduction pathways and possible circulatory disorders. The examination is painless and only takes a few minutes.
Your benefit Early indications of cardiac arrhythmia, circulatory problems or stress on the heart - an important basis for further cardiac diagnostics in the Premium Check.
Exercise ECG (ergometry)
During an exercise ECG, the heart function is tested under physical exertion. While you pedal on a cycle ergometer, your heart rate, blood pressure and ECG curve are continuously monitored. This shows how your heart and circulation react to stress.
Your benefit Assessment of physical performance and detection of stress-related heart problems. In addition, blood pressure behaviour, arrhythmia or circulatory disorders can become visible under stress.
Lung function test (spirometry)
The lung function test measures respiratory volume and respiratory flow. It checks how much air you can breathe in and out and how quickly this happens. The examination shows whether the lungs are working freely or whether there are indications of constrictions or restrictions.
Your benefit Assessment of lung performance and recognition of possible airway constrictions. Important for the holistic assessment of performance, endurance and resilience.
ABI measurement (ankle-brachial index)
The ABI measurement compares the blood pressure in the arms and legs. This makes it possible to recognise whether the leg arteries are freely supplied with blood or whether there are indications of circulatory disorders. The examination is painless, quick and provides important information on vascular health.
Your benefit Early detection of arteriosclerosis or vasoconstriction and important assessment of personal cardiovascular risk.
Ultrasound of the abdomen (abdominal sonography)
Ultrasound of the abdominal cavity enables a gentle, radiation-free assessment of many central organs. The organs examined include - Liver (e.g. fatty liver, cysts, structural changes) - Gallbladder and bile ducts (e.g. gallstones, inflammation) - Kidneys (e.g. congestion, stones, cysts) - Spleen (size, structure) - Pancreas (as far as can be seen) - Aorta (e.g. dilatation / aneurysm screening) - Urinary bladder (depending on filling) - Prostate
The examination ideally complements laboratory and cardiac diagnostics.
Your benefit - Early detection of organic changes or stress, inflammation, stones, cysts or structural abnormalities. Important for a comprehensive understanding of internal organ health - Fast, gentle diagnostics without radiation exposure
Ultrasound of the thyroid gland
Ultrasound visualises the size, structure and possible changes in the thyroid gland. - The examination is painless and shows whether the organ is inflamed, enlarged or has nodular changes. - As thyroid disorders - especially in southern Germany - are often the cause of tiredness, listlessness or weight fluctuations, ultrasound provides important additional information to the laboratory values (e.g. TSH).
Your benefit: Reliable and rapid clarification of whether the thyroid gland could be the cause of the symptoms.
Physical examination
Short basic clinical examination with listening to the heart and lungs, pulse and blood pressure checks, visual findings and other orientating checks depending on the doctor's assessment.
Your benefit Supplements the technical examinations with the overall medical impression and helps to categorise findings correctly
