Preventive examinations

Prevention is the best medicine: In order to specifically prevent diseases - or to be able to recognise them early and treat them quickly - we therefore offer regular check-ups. We place a particular focus on so-called diseases of civilisation, such as cardiovascular disease, kidney disease and diabetes mellitus.

A preventive medical check-up usually begins with a blood sample and a urine test. This is followed by a physical examination and a consultation with your doctor. We will discuss the results of the examination and, if necessary, plan further diagnostic steps.

Anyone with statutory health insurance can have a free one-off health check between the ages of 18 and 35. From the age of 35, this check can then be taken advantage of every three years.

Please note: As part of the HZV contracts (family doctor-centred care), the intervals between regular health checks are shortened. Patients with AOK insurance are therefore entitled to an annual check-up; insured persons with other HZV health insurance funds are entitled to a check-up every two years.

Our Examination methodsthe

Electrocardiogram (ECG)

The ECG is a fast and precise instrument for the electrical visualisation of the heartbeat. In the event of acute heart complaints or changes in the heartbeat, a heart attack or cardiac arrhythmia can be reliably detected and treated quickly.

Long-term ECG (24-hour ECG)

In a long-term ECG, the electrical heart rhythm is recorded over a longer period of time (between 24 and 72 hours). This allows unnoticed or sporadic disturbances of the heartbeat to be detected, which would otherwise go unnoticed with a regular ECG. This can reduce the risk of strokes, for example, particularly in old age.

Long-term blood pressure measurement

In a long-term blood pressure measurement, blood pressure is measured automatically over a period of 24 hours. The measurement is carried out using a special device consisting of a cuff on the upper arm and a small recording device on the belt. The results are analysed quickly and easily on the day of delivery. Medication can therefore be adjusted immediately after the measurement.

Exercise ECG

During an exercise ECG, the heart rhythm and blood pressure are measured during physical activity. This not only allows physical fitness to be assessed - it can also detect the presence of heart disease or cardiac arrhythmia.

Pulmonary function test

A lung function test is used to test the condition and capacity of the lungs and airways. This is particularly useful if asthma or chronic bronchitis is suspected. Also as part of the Disease management programmes we carry out regular lung function tests.

Ultrasound (sonography) of the abdomen

The ultrasound examination of the abdominal cavity enables a precise assessment of the internal organs (liver, gallbladder, pancreas, spleen, kidneys, bladder, prostate and large abdominal vessels), as well as the rapid clarification of complaints such as acute abdominal pain and colic in the case of kidney or gallstones.

Ultrasound (sonography) of the thyroid gland

Changes to the thyroid gland can be specifically detected by means of an ultrasound examination and monitored over the longer term. Thyroid sonography is therefore used, for example, in the case of nodular changes in the thyroid gland or cysts.

Ultrasound of the leg veins for suspected thrombosis

An ultrasound examination of the leg veins is used if a blood clot with blockage of a vein (thrombosis) in the thigh or lower leg is suspected. The leg veins are measured at different heights and the blood flow is assessed. If a thrombosis is present, we immediately initiate appropriate treatment.

Ultrasound of the abdominal aorta

An ultrasound examination of the abdominal aorta is used to specifically rule out an aneurysm - i.e. a pathological dilation of the blood vessel. Every man over the age of 65 is entitled to a one-off examination as a health insurance benefit.

Laboratory tests

Laboratory tests are an important tool for the early detection and monitoring of various diseases. In co-operation with a state-of-the-art laboratory in Karlsruhe, we offer rapid analysis of blood, urine and stool samples. The results are usually available the following day and can be discussed in person or by telephone. If you are privately insured or self-paying, you can also use the services of our modern in-house laboratory. Almost all necessary blood values can be determined here within just one hour.

Acute urinalysis

In the event of acute bladder or urinary tract complaints, we carry out the necessary urinalysis immediately in the practice in order to be able to initiate optimal treatment as quickly as possible.

Corona tests (Covid-19 test)

We carry out both PCR swabs and POC-NAT tests (nucleic acid amplification tests, similar to PCR) in accordance with the applicable test regulations. The results of the PCR test are usually available after 16 to 24 hours, whereas the POC-NAT swabs provide a result after just 15-30 minutes. In the event of a positive Covid-19 test result, we also issue a certificate of recovery.

ABI measurement

The ABI measurement (ankle-brachial index) compares the blood pressure value in the arm with the blood pressure value in the ankle area. The examination method is primarily used to diagnose peripheral arterial occlusive disease (PAD), which leads to a narrowing of the arteries and thus to circulatory disorders in the arms and legs. Diseases such as heart attacks and strokes can also be reliably detected in this way. We are happy to carry out this useful, quick and painless examination as a so-called IGeL service.
